Bushishin Budo Renmei
(formerly
SHORIN JI KEMPO SOGO BUDO)
FORMATION AND HISTORY
|
In the year 1998, a group of black belts from Sumter, South Carolina,
who had all trained and received their dan ranking from the Nippon Kamishin
Ryu system of Soke
Albert Church,
decided to form a martial arts organization. At that time, the Kamishin Kai Organization and the Nippon Kobudo Rengokai organizations of Dr. Church
were not publicly active in training or membership. These black belts were relocating to
several different cities, and as friends in budo, they wanted a way to
"keep in touch" with each other and to continue in the training
they had received under Dr.
Church's organization.

Soke Albert Church & Shihan Larry Barnes
|
Shihan Larry Barnes had been a
personal student of Dr.
Church. He received his Shihan-dai title,
sandan ranking and instructor license from Dr. Church
to teach Shorin-Ji Tetsuken-Ryu Karate Do, Kuniba Ha Seishin Kan Judo, Kanda
Ha Jujitsu, and Kanda Ha Seishin Kan Kobudo. Shihan Barnes stepped up to help in
the formation of the new martial arts organization. In 1973, the same year he received his
ranking and instructor authorization from Dr.
Church, Larry Barnes founded the
Yamabushi Martial Arts Association and continued teaching the arts authorized
by Dr. Church.

Shihan Barnes made several trips to Sumter to review the Constitution and
By-laws, the documentation of curriculum, and the proficiency and training
abilities of the Sensei of the new organization. He also tested for promotions under
the requirements of the Yamabushi Martial Arts Association. Shihan Barnes
initially served as the
"acting" head of the organization. He named Shihan Ray Mohalick as sole
acting Shihan-dai and head of organization on October 24, 1999; and appointed
Shihan Ray Mohalick as permanent President / Director on April 1, 2001.

|
In 2007, in order to
avoid confusion with the World
Shorinji Kempo Organization of Japan, and to further honor both Dr. Church
and Shihan Barnes, the organization's name was changed to BUSHISHIN BUDO RENMEI (Warrior Spirit
Martial Way Association), and the name of what is taught changed to KAMISHIN KEMPO KARATE (Godly Heart
Fist Way China Hand). These
changes were made with the help and advice of Soke Darrell Collins of the
newly revived Nippon Kobudo Rengokai.

In a "Document
of Succession" dated October 20, 2003, Shihan Mohalick passed on the
leadership position of the organization, naming Shihan Harold Hicks as
President and Director.
